School Children as Water Scientists in Vuores

The primary school children in Vuores, in UNaLab front-runner city Tampere, are actively participating in monitoring the water quality of nearby ditches and lakes. They conduct the examinations with their teachers during spring and autumn. In addition to water quality, the children also examine water insects. The UNaLab project has provided the school with water examination backpacks, in which you can find equipment to conduct many different measurements.

Self-assess with the Green City Tool

Following the recent closure of applications for the European Green Capital and European Green Leaf awards, the European Commission is celebrating World Cities Day by highlighting its Green City Tool. Working as both as a means of benchmarking and self-assessment, the tool allows cities to commit and communicate their efforts to becoming greener and more sustainable cities.

Playing Our Way to a Greener City

In September, the UNaLab project took part in the Science Is Wonderful exhibition, which was organised as part of the EU Research & Innovation Days. The aim was on the one hand to present the UNaLab project to the visitors, and on the other hand to introduce them to nature-based solutions (NBS) and the benefits that they can bring to cities.

Buddy Meeting Between Eindhoven and Prague

The so-called “Buddy System” has been developed within the UNaLab project as a set of tools and activities to transfer knowledge and results about nature-based solutions from the front-runner cities to the follower cities. As part of the buddy activities organised between the cities, front-runner city Eindhoven and follower city Prague organised a buddy meeting in Prague in May.

Urban Living Lab Framework & RoadMapping Toolkit

In order to obtain a better understanding of urban living labs from the perspective of UNaLab city representatives and to define the concept of an urban living lab, two workshops were organised in the UNaLab project, followed by an open-ended questionnaire to validate the collected data in the two workshops.

ULL Training at the Learning Lab Day

The Urban Living Lab training, hosted in connection to the OpenLivingLab Days conference, offered the UNaLab cities the opportunity to follow a full-day training on Living Lab methodologies. The UNaLab sessions at the training focused specifically on “getting started” and “ideation and design” of Urban Living Labs: where to start, what are the pitfalls to avoid along the way, and experiences from Living Labs from the ENoLL network on how to ideate and design with your stakeholders.
