Two follower cities’ reflections on UNaLab

The first years of the UNaLab project have been filled with activities for the follower cities, with the series of local workshops connected to the roadmapping process being the most important part. The cities of Stavanger and Prague have reflected on their respective journeys so far in the project, and share their expectations and plans for the next half of the project.

Call for Papers Open for the 2nd International Conference on Water, Megacities and Global Change

The 2nd International Conference on “Water, Megacities and Global Change” (EauMega 2020), will take place between 1-4 December 2020 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, to bring together scientists, operators, policy makers and civil society to address water security and global challenges in Megacities. The call for papers is currently open.

School Children as Water Scientists in Vuores

The primary school children in Vuores, in UNaLab front-runner city Tampere, are actively participating in monitoring the water quality of nearby ditches and lakes. They conduct the examinations with their teachers during spring and autumn. In addition to water quality, the children also examine water insects. The UNaLab project has provided the school with water examination backpacks, in which you can find equipment to conduct many different measurements.

Self-assess with the Green City Tool

Following the recent closure of applications for the European Green Capital and European Green Leaf awards, the European Commission is celebrating World Cities Day by highlighting its Green City Tool. Working as both as a means of benchmarking and self-assessment, the tool allows cities to commit and communicate their efforts to becoming greener and more sustainable cities.
