In Autumn 2019, project partner IRE had the honour to present the UNaLab project and demo experience in three events, taking place in the Italian cities of Savona, Sassari and Camogli.
In Savona, UNaLab was presented during the “Actions for a resilient territory” workshop organised on October 18th in the framework of the Interreg Maritime project “ADAPT”, focusing on climate adaptation and implementation of NBS in cities. The aim of the event was to increase stakeholders and technicians’ knowledge and skills on the topic of adaptation to climate change. Different cities from Tuscany, Liguria (IT) and Corsica (FR) attended the meeting. The presentation provided an opportunity for us to describe not only the technical solutions that are being implemented within the project to address the challenge, but also its innovative bottom-up approach based on co-creation.
The occasion for the Sassari presentation was the workshop “Climate Change and Green Solutions” on 4th October organised by the CMCC Foundation (Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change) in the framework of the Climate-KIC project “SUSHI- Sustainable Historic City Districts”. The event discussed about the impacts of climate change on cities and provided an opportunity for us to promote nature-based solutions as an optimal answer to these challenges. Our presentation focused on the UNaLab demonstration currently happening at the Genova (IT) living lab, where the former military barracks (“Gavoglio”) is being renatured, re-connected to the surroundings, and transformed into an inclusive and multifunctional public space thanks to the deployment of NBS. The audience was composed of local stakeholders, public officers and technical experts in the field.
In Camogli, IRE gave the presentation during the “Autumn School” (7-8 November) organised in the framework of the Interreg Maritime project “Trig-eau”, which aims to solve the problem of flood risk through the promotion of green infrastructures for water management. The 3-day school, organised into seminars, laboratories and working groups, focused specifically on the participated governance and management of hydraulic risk in urban areas and on adaptation actions. The UNaLab and the Genova experiences were presented during a technical session and attracted great interest among the participating technical experts.
