Description
By covering eroded riverbanks with cuttings, they can be stabilized against further erosion. Using cuttings that are able to root, for example from willow, allow for long-term stabilization though natural cultivation of vegetation. It is a simple method that can use local material, and is often implemented in combination with other soil bioengineering techniques like living fascines to maximize stabilization potential.
Conditions for Implementation
- Appropriate construction timing (e.g. low water flow, no rainfall, appropriate season for vegetation development)
