This tool is used to identify potential beneficiaries of a proposed NBS intervention, to learn about their individual benefits, and to use this knowledge to identify potential alternative financing options for NBS. It thereby "translates" ecosystem service functions to individual benefits of different actors.
Based on the user inputs, the tool proposes "Usual Suspect Beneficiaries" (those who could potentially benefit from a proposed intervention (based on similar existing interventions)). The user is then able to select the foreseen beneficiaries based on their understanding of the local context. The user is also able to roll over the beneficiaries to learn about why they have been identified as "Usual Suspects".
Based on the user input, an output sheet is produced depicting the NBS functions (based on ecosystem services); prerequisites for good NBS performance; a list of the proposed beneficiaries and their potential associated benefits; the types of benefits that can be expected (revenue generation, cost savings, active use, etc.); and a list of potential financing options for the proposed intervention.
Notes to facilitator:
The outputs of the Value Model have been distilled and organised on Inspiration Cards which will be downloadable from the UNaLab Replication Framework. These cards can be used in a workshop format. These cards will be utilised as part of the Roadmapping Workshops in the UNaLab Follower Cities.
