The Institute of Human Factors and Technology Management (IAT) represents within the University of Stuttgart the fields of technology management and industrial engineering, in particular information and communication technology, organisational design and human resource management. IAT supports companies in identifying relevant technologies and in developing appropriate technological strategies taking into account their competencies, competitive environment and market situation. The Institute plans organisational and technical structures that are future-oriented and meet company requirements as well as human needs. The IAT cooperates closely with Fraunhofer IAO, their researchers have worked together at the interface between university research and industrial application on numerous projects directly for industry clients or as part of publicly funded research projects.

The Institute of Landscape Planning and Ecology ILPOE at University of Stuttgart fosters and develops strategies for the design of landscapes as living environments. ILPOE investigates the structures of landscape, its natural functions, aesthetics and its meaning to people. ILPOE also develops corresponding research methods and planning tools based on a comprehensive understanding of ecology and considering people as an important part of the socio-ecological system. Through this approach to landscape planning ILPOE aims to contribute to the productive interplay between natural ecosystems, technical infrastructure and human living environments. ILPOE’s expertise spans from international research projects on urban green infrastructure, on water sensitive urban design, on integrating ecological processes into the conceptualization of resilient cities, and when developing new methods and formats in participative, iterative and model-based design strategies such as Geodesign.

The results of the UNaLab survey on urban green spaces showed that the majority of urban residents surveyed prefer to use green and blue spaces and may change their walking or cycling route to spend time in green and blue spaces when they are not in a rush.
